Dominique Michaud is the Director, Research Development, at Concordia University’s Office of the Vice-President – Research and Graduate Studies. Her mandate is to develop an interdisciplinary and intersectoral portfolio focused on research funding strategies in the social sciences and humanities, natural sciences and engineering, as well as the fine arts. Dominique is a Past President of l’Association des administratrices et administrateurs de recherche universitaire du Québec (ADARUQ) and currently serves as Vice-President of the Canadian Association of Research Administrators (CARA). She is a strong advocate for professional development as a core pillar of expertise.

Following a strategic review of activities and objectives, the Canadian Association of Research Administrators (CARA) implemented a new 3-year strategic plan in 2016. The plan’s success demanded a robust suite of governance policies, management practices and operational processes to underpin its implementation. As the strategic cycle nears its conclusion, CARA will shares the benefits and impacts of creating a formal and structured governance framework as well as its experience in identifying, designing and implementing appropriate leadership strategies for a rapidly growing association. Through facilitated discussion, participants will have an opportunity to explore practical approaches to association governance, to challenge conventional styles, and to debate the value of holistic governance models. They will also receive a resource toolkit to support the creation or enhancement of their governance structures.
